The Currency of the Soul: Karmic Debt, Divine Lessons, and the Power of Love
Have you ever noticed how some people seem to move through life attracting blessing after blessing while others appear trapped in the same painful cycles? Some call it karma. Others call it sowing and reaping. Some see it through the lens of ancestral patterns, while others view it as lessons carried over from previous lifetimes. No matter what language you use, the underlying principle remains the same: every action creates an effect, and every choice plants a seed that eventually bears fruit.
I often think of life as a karmic bank account. Every loving action, every act of forgiveness, every moment of integrity, every time we choose truth over deception and growth over bitterness, we make a deposit. At the same time, dishonesty, manipulation, selfishness, abuse, and intentionally harming others create withdrawals. Over time, these deposits and withdrawals shape the experiences, relationships, and opportunities that flow into our lives.
Some spiritual traditions teach that karmic debt can originate from past lives. Others believe we inherit unresolved lessons through our bloodlines. We may be born into families carrying generations of addiction, abandonment, poverty, anger, fear, or emotional wounds. The Bible speaks about the consequences of generations while also teaching that redemption, healing, and transformation are always possible. What was passed down to us does not have to continue through us.
Perhaps this is why certain lessons keep repeating. The same type of relationship. The same financial struggle. The same emotional trigger. The same fear. The universe has a way of placing the lesson back in front of us until we learn what it came to teach. Not as punishment, but as an opportunity for growth.
The ancient principles of Ma’at taught humanity to live according to truth, balance, harmony, reciprocity, justice, order, and righteousness. When I study the Universal Laws of Ma’at, I see many of the same principles reflected in the teachings of Yahshua, known to many as Jesus Christ. He taught us to love our neighbors, forgive those who hurt us, extend grace, seek truth, and overcome evil with good. He consistently pointed people back to the condition of their hearts.
This is where the idea of Christ Consciousness becomes so powerful. It is the awareness that love is the highest vibration. It is choosing compassion when anger feels easier. It is responding with wisdom instead of reacting from wounds. It is understanding that true power is not found in domination, revenge, or control, but in love, self-mastery, and spiritual maturity.
Many of the people who enter our lives are either blessings or lessons. Some people arrive to encourage us, support us, and help us become who we are meant to be. Others arrive as karmic relationships. These are the people who trigger old wounds, challenge our boundaries, expose our weaknesses, and force us to confront parts of ourselves that still need healing. Karmic people often create cycles of confusion, emotional highs and lows, manipulation, inconsistency, and pain. Their purpose is not necessarily to stay forever. Their purpose may be to teach us something we could not learn any other way.
The mistake many of us make is holding onto karmic people long after the lesson has been learned. We confuse attachment with love. We mistake chaos for passion. We ignore red flags because we are focused on potential rather than reality. Eventually, life asks us a simple question: Are you going to repeat the lesson or graduate from it?
The power of love is that it has the ability to break cycles. Real love heals. Real love creates peace. Real love inspires growth. Real love does not require manipulation, fear, control, or suffering. Whether we are healing generational wounds, paying off karmic debt, or learning lessons our souls came here to experience, love remains one of the most powerful tools available to us.
Every day we are making deposits into our future. Through our thoughts. Through our words. Through our actions. Through how we treat ourselves and others. The beautiful thing is that no matter where we begin, we always have the opportunity to change the balance of our account. We can choose forgiveness over resentment. Truth over illusion. Healing over victimhood. Love over fear.
Perhaps the greatest blessing is realizing that we are not trapped by our past. We are shaped by it, but not defined by it. We have the power to learn the lesson, break the cycle, heal the wound, and create a different future.
This reflection also connects deeply to my fine art print, Essence. The repeated word “Essence” throughout the piece serves as a reminder that beneath the labels, titles, wounds, lessons, and experiences, there is something deeper within each of us. The crowns symbolize divine potential, while phrases like “Knowledge of Self,” “Legacy,” and “Free Spirit” speak to the journey of self discovery and spiritual growth. Just as karmic lessons challenge us to uncover who we truly are, Essence invites viewers to look beyond the surface and reconnect with their highest self.
