Tubman believed deeply in the right to live free, once explaining, “I had reasoned this out in my mind; there was one of two things I had a right to, liberty or death.” She was also known for her determination and leadership, later saying, “I never ran my train off the track and I never lost a passenger.” Reflecting on her work, she once said, “I freed a thousand slaves.
